Household Cavalry Association - Dorset

A Little Bit of History ---

Since the 1660's, officers and soldiers of the Household Cavalry have provided the sovereign of England with a mounted armed escort.

Today ---

The ceremonial role still exists and can be seen daily at Horse Guards, in Whitehall London and whenever Her Majesty - The Queen is in public ceremony.

The Household Cavalry comprises of two regiments and each regiment take the daily guard duty in turn. The two regiments that make up the Household Cavalry are:

The Life Guards, who wear red tunics and have white plumes to their helmets, and

The Blues and Royals, who wear blue tunics and have red plumes.

In addition to the role in London, the Household Cavalry maintains an operational regiment in Windsor, Berkshire. This regiment is made up of officers and soldiers from both The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals and has provided troops to Northern Ireland, the Fauklands and Gulf wars and many peace keeping roles within Europe and worldwide.

This Association comprises of past and present members of both Household Cavalry regiments who live in and around Dorset - England.

We welcome new members from any location, providing they have served in the Household Cavalry and belong to their parent Regimental Association.
